The third precept of the Church is to confess our sins at least once a year. While we are only required under the penalty of mortal sin to confess our sins sacramentally once a year, we are encouraged (and most of us need) to go much more frequently. It is most highly recommended for the Faithful to go to Confession every two weeks. Frequent Confession restores sanctifying grace in our souls (if we were in a state of mortal sin before our Confession), absolves all sin (venial and mortal), and strengths us to resist future temptations.
