What is the ACRE Test?

The Assessment of Children/Youth Religious Education (ACRE) is designed to evaluate catechetical and religious education programs in Catholic schools and parishes. This multilevel, age-appropriate tool is administered to students in grade 5 (Level 1), grades 8 or 9 (Level 2), and grades 11 or 12 (Level 3).

Aligned with the four Pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the five Tasks of Catechesis, ACRE assesses students' comprehension of basic Catholic teachings, as well as their religious beliefs, attitudes, practices, and perceptions. This assessment highlights strengths and identifies areas needing improvement within catechetical and religious education programs.

ACRE scores are standardized and should not be compared to typical grading scales (e.g., 95% = A, 86% = B). After administration, individual parish results are processed by the CAL Testing company, which then aggregates the data to determine an average score for parishes within the Archdiocese.
