Three major events take place: 1) The increase and influence of technology coupled with man’s failure to realize these are treasures hidden by God for us to use for our betterment under His guidance. 2) The combination of advances in technology, the rise of false (aka, modern) philosophies, and the unsavory actions of far too many bishops resulted in what had begun with the Poor Man Movement was a rejection of the Church’s authority known as the Reformation. 3) The discovery of the Americas and rise of the United States.
