After Jesus was arrested, He was brought to the chiefs priests. They looked for a reason to find Jesus guilty, and questioned Him. Jesus did not give in, and nobody could find Him guilty of any crime. But because there was evil in their hearts, they still tried to find ways to have Jesus crucified.

“And they brought Jesus to the high priest; and all the priests and the scribes and the ancients assembled together. And the chief priests and all the council sought for evidence against Jesus, that they might put him to death, and found none. For many bore false witness against him, and their evidences were not agreeing.”  Mark 14:53,55-56
