Mass #12: Sacred Triduum Liturgies

Lesson

Eucharist_06

O truly blessed Night, sings the Exultet of the Easter Vigil, which alone deserved to know the time and the hour when Christ rose from the realm of the dead! (CCC 647)

This lesson focusing on the Mass in the context of the Sacred Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday), which is the most central and important Liturgical celebration in the year.  While our lessons on the Life of Christ included sections on the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ, this lesson will focus on the Liturgy of the Sacred Triduum.  In this lesson we will look at the liturgical texts of the 1962 Rite of the Roman Mass since many of our readers are not familiar with these texts and can learn from them.  The spirituality described in this lesson; however, applies to all Catholics attending any Rite of the Mass.

Also to note, the Holy Week Liturgies underwent a reform in 1955 under Venerable Pope Pius XII.
