Not since the Catechism of the Catholic Church came out in 1992, has a document so stirred the waters of the Catholic Church. Many are asking what is wrong with the current Missal we are using; it has served us well for over forty years? There are arguments on both side of the aisle but it is the Church that has the final word. The reality is that there have been numerous problems with the work of ICEL (International Commission on English in the Liturgy in the past. Before commissioning a New Translation of the Roman Missal, the Vatican issued a document, Liturgiam authenticam that established new norms for the translation of liturgical books from Latin to the vernacular (the common language of a country). The Vatican also formed a commission of bishops from the English speaking countries, Vox Clara, to insure the new translation was in full compliance with the Latin text.

This 68 page book on the new translation includes the following:

  • A catechesis on the Eucharist
  • A history of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
  • The reasons for a new translation
  • A catechesis on the changes of what we will say and what we will hear from the priest.

You can purchase this item as a PDF document, or as a paperback book that will be mailed to your address.  Remember, you can save if you use either discount code SHELFSTOCK305 or WHOASHIPPING at checkout.  Offer valid only on paperbook version.

Catholics Seeking Greater Meaning in Career Turn To Catechesis & Career Coaching for New Direction

State College, PA, January 25, 2012:  Many Catholics have expressed discouragement with their inability to find a career which aligns with their values, and still provides for their financial needs.   According to professionals at The Gifted Vocation and CatechismClass.com, frustration runs deep for many who wish to find meaningful careers, but instead find secular approaches to creating new or improved career direction fall short – so Catholics are turning to catechists and Catholic-based career coaches for assistance.

Catholics of all ages are uncovering newfound meaning in their careers through longstanding truths found in Scripture, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church; combined with today’s career coaching practices.   Taking on the wisdom of a solid Catholic foundation individuals have turned their careers into vocations, or “callings”, by aligning their Spiritual Gifts with God-given talents.

Those who have had catechetical instruction combined with coaching have found, “there is a transformation going on and I just need to listen closely to the Holy Spirit for guidance and courage.”  Or, as one mid-career professional stated, “Just to let you know that with the blessing of the Holy Spirit and with the necessary insight…provided, I was able to land myself a job.  To get out of the box and explore other new opportunity was not easy for me but with a lot of prayer and especially with the help of… (catechesis and coaching) I have developed the courage to try something different.”

CatechismClass.com, as part of their continuing commitment to catechesis in the Catholic Church, has recently partnered with career coaches at The Gifted Vocation to offer an innovative online approach to Catholic career coaching and catechesis.   Together they are offering a program designed to assist Catholics in uncovering their unique God-given talents and spiritual gifts, and researching new or improved career directions for the expression of those talents and gifts.

March for Life: Courses Available on Abortion & Contraception

We hold at the center of our Catholic values the inherent respect and dignity for all human life, especially the lives of the most vulnerable, the unborn. Please keep the pro-lifers attending the March on Monday in your prayers as they attempt to evangelize the world through their presence at this important event.

A recent question from an adult student asked: “Can a person be pro-contraception and pro-abortion and still demand to be recognized as a practicing Catholic?”

Even Jesus Christ couldn’t give a simple answer to a complex question. When the lawyer asked him what the single greatest commandment was, He answered that the first greatest commandment is to love God, and the second greatest is to love neighbor. He presented the issue of love as a two-sided coin. You really can’t have one side of a coin without the other. The issue of life is the same. Abortion is one side of the coin; Contraception is the other side of the coin. Yes, we Catholics must fight abortion, but at the same time we must be engaged in the clear exposition of Catholic moral teachings on contraception. Many people in our culture recognize this implicitly by claiming that abortion is the most effective form of birth control. Imagine that!?

CatechismClass.com has prepared two short courses dealing with these complementary issues. We assume that the vast majority of our members are already committed to the Catholic teaching on these two issues. These two separate short courses are designed to give the committed Catholic the power packed facts to defend these critical teachings in casual conversations, cocktail parties, and formal debates.

Abortion Short Course: Learn the basics of this issue, including the various types of abortion, the history of the issue, the involvement of Planned Parenthood, the prevalence of abortion in and among certain cultures, it's connection to euthanasia, the primary nature of the pro-life issue, and the importance of voting pro-life.

Contraception Short Course: Learn the basics of Church teaching as it is found in both the Old and New Testament, it's effect on the body, it's interference with chastity, it's negative effect on both Marriage and the Family, it's close link to abortion, the use of Natural Family Planning, what the recent Popes have said about contraception, it's vicious exploitation of women, and finally, the real meaning of love.

MP3 Audio Lessons by Bishop Vasa on The Soul of the Apostolate

We are very pleased to now provide a series of talks given by His Excellency Bishop Robert Vasa, Coadjutor of the Diocese of Santa Rosa.  His Excellency gave these series of talks while he was the Bishop of the Diocese of Baker, Oregon.

All the lessons have a focus on Bishop Vasa teaching and preaching using "The Soul of the Apostolate" by Fr. Jean-Baptiste Chautard

The Soul of the Apostolate was the favorite book of Pope St. Pius X. This book shows how prayer is the soul of every apostolic work and is absolutely critical for apostolic success. Explores all the proved methods of developing and maintaining the interior life amid the bustle of daily activity. This excellent book will help you to understand the economy of salvation, as well as the many dead-ends that we fallen creatures tend to follow. A critically important introduction to the spiritual life! This important book has been recommended by Pope St. Pius X and his successor, Pope Benedict XV. Pope St. Pius X said, "If you desire that God should bless your apostolate and make it fruitful, undertake everything for His glory, saturate yourself and your devoted fellow-workers with the spirit of Jesus Christ, animating yourself and them with an intense interior life. To this end, I can offer you no better guide than The Soul of the Apostolate by Dom Chautard, Cistercian Abbot. I warmly recommend this book to you, as I value it very highly, and have myself made it my bedside book."

His talks are available individually, in groups around each of his main topics, and as one lump sum.  One of his talks in particular will be shortly available free of charge via the Tutorials Section of our sidebar.

Audio Lessons by Bishop Vasa

"Soul of the Apostolate": (Parts I, II, III, IV, V, VI) An examination of Dom Chautard's (Jean-Baptiste Chautard) work Soul of the Apostolate says the evangelization of people is but a result of one's inner life of union with God.

The Incarnation and the Redemption establish Jesus as the Source, and the only Source, of this divine life which all men are called upon to share... Failure on the part of the apostle, to realize this principle, and the illusion that he could produce the slightest trace of supernatural life without borrowing every bit of it from Jesus Christ, would lead us to believe that his ignorance of theology was equaled only by his stupid self-conceit.

"Bishop Vasa on the Causes and Fruitfulness of the Interior Life": (Parts I, II, III, IV, V).  A series of five audio lessons given by His Excellency, Bishop Vasa, while Bishop of the Diocese of Baker, Oregon. His talks focus on the interior life with a focus on the causes & fruitfulness of the interior life.  It continues using "The Soul of the Apostolate" and builds off of previous lessons.
